The haunted twilight of Richard Simmons

The haunted twilight of Richard Simmons

Richard Simmons opened his front door, frail and trembling. Mauro Oliveira, a visual artist who was also Simmons’ masseur and former assistant, greeted him on the front porch, concerned about his friend. After receiving an ominous phone call from Simmons, Oliveira had driven his truck to the Hollywood Hills, past the two metal gates that Simmons had left ajar for him, and into the driveway. He reached the porch through the white columns that recalled an antebellum Southern mansion, and past Simmons’ bronze statue of a regal Dalmatian.

Wearing a T-shirt and sweatpants, a gaunt Simmons led Oliveira through the foyer, and into the living room. “Mauro, we can no longer see each other,” Simmons told him in a quiet, defeated voice.

It was April 2014. Oliveira, a 49-year-old from Brazil with the burly arms and trim physique of a gym rat and close-cropped black hair, had met Simmons 13 months earlier, and the two became fast friends. But he was catching a weird vibe lately, and hadn’t seen him in a while, before the then 65-year-old Simmons summoned him to the mansion, saying only that they needed to talk.

“What’s going on, Richard?” Oliveira asked. “Why are you saying that?”

“I don’t know,” Simmons replied. “I just want to be by myself, and I want to be in the house, and we’re never going to see each other again.”

Simmons’ home is a mixture of classical architecture and design that recalls his New Orleans youth.
He collects offbeat pieces, including a menagerie of dolls highlighted by a rare Barbra Streisand model and the colorful work of Mexican painter and sculptor Sergio Bustamante. As they spoke, he and Oliveira stood near an ornate grand piano.

“Let’s talk it over,” Oliveira said. “I want to sit here, and make sure you’ll be OK. Let’s go upstairs, I’ll give you a massage and relax you.”

Simmons called up to Teresa Reveles, his live-in housekeeper of nearly three decades. “Mauro is going upstairs with me,” he said.

“No, no, no!” Reveles shouted from the second floor, according to Oliveira. “Get out! Get out!”

Oliveira looked at his friend, who told him in a soft voice, “You’ve gotta go.”

Oliveira leaned in toward Simmons. “Is she controlling your life now?”

As Oliveira tells it, Simmons looked down, and with one resigned word confirmed his worst suspicions: “Yes.” This was the last time he saw his friend.

With Reveles shrieking behind him, Oliveira hustled out to his truck, picked up his cell phone, and asked an intermediary to contact Simmons’ older brother, Lenny. He and Lenny did not have a close relationship, but Oliveira knew of nowhere else to turn.

Oliveira is calm as he recounts this story, but irritation enters his voice as he recalls a threat leveled that day, nearly two years ago. “Later that evening, Richard called me and said that his manager and Teresa wanted to put a restraining order against me — you can see how controlling they are — and I said, ‘What restraining order? You are the one who called me. I’m not invading your privacy, or your house.’ That was the end of that. No restraining order was put against me.”

Oliveira has spoken briefly about his privileged access to Simmons during this dark period, but never in this much detail. He recently underwent a heart procedure, which he blames on Simmons-related stress, and is reluctant to invite further strain. But he agreed to elaborate on a Hollywood mystery that has previously been told only in a few cryptic tabloid items.

Richard Simmons has vanished from public view, and many who know him best say they haven’t had any contact in more than two years. All repeat the same message, some anonymously and some on the record: Simmons stopped returning calls and emails more than two years ago, behavior that is highly out of character, and his housekeeper is blocking access to him at home. Indeed, for a generous and intensely social public figure, one who taught classes at his Beverly Hills gym until a few years ago; has sold more than 20 million exercise videos, including the mega-popular “Sweatin’ to the Oldies” series; appeared many times on David Letterman’s shows, “General Hospital,” his own talk show and infomercials; and was a seemingly ubiquitous presence for decades, the silence is striking.  (Continue Reading)

The Alice R. Gore Memorial Post

The Alice R. Gore Memorial Post
The Alice R. Gore Memorial Post
It has been several years after the death of Alice R. Gore and GAL David Martin has yet to provide Alice's daughter with the final dispersals...despite numerous request from Alice's daughter.

A study of tried and proven methods used by the Probate Court of Cook County to confiscate over 100 years of creativity and wealth from Alice R. And Edward Gore in less than three years. Judge Kawamoto and Miriam Solo may ultimately be judged only by God.

Alice's family paid thousands of dollars for her burial expenses and yet were never reembursed by Judge Kawamoto's court. Yet, Mr. Martin was paid thousands of dollars for his GAL fees at the last court date April 9, 2013. Alice has been deceased for over two years and why is a GAL even needed?

The Alice R. Gore Memorial Post is under construction...pardon our dust...

The file link below is to the complete 187 page Probate Court of Cook County Docket file of Alice R. Gore from 2006 to 2010. It is a dramatic and sad road map of her journey from an independent citizen to a person completely isolated under the control of uncaring, caregivers, judges and lawyers.

For the benefit of law enforcement or journalists who may be interested, additional posts describing the motives and actions of the actors and collaborators portrayed in the docket above will be presented in the future. Also links to other mischief perpetrated by some of the actors will provided.

Updated 11-2-2012 A research Shark has made an interesting discovery. The Probate Court has a difference in the number of hearings from the 187 dockets. How could that be??? Of course, they would not have had hearings without providing Sodini notice to all parties.

How to Handle Sibling Rivalry Over Family Money and Avoid Probate Court

How to Handle Sibling Rivalry Over Family Money and Avoid Probate Court

Editor's note: This is all and well.   However, the crooks running the Probate Court of Cook County know all the illegal tricks to create disharmony. As and example, Judge Kawamoto appointed a court adjudicated insane relative as guardian.  Lucius Verenus, Schoolmaster, ProbateSharks.com

NEW YORK (MainStreet) — Mary Rose is more than $100,000 in debt to attorneys since her 59-year-old brother, Robert Nabity, reportedly placed their mother in the Omaha, Neb., House of Hope locked Alzheimer's facility two and a half years ago. “Even though my brother and his well-connected attorney are violating state statutes and guardian responsibility guidelines there have been no consequences, because the judge does nothing about it,” said Rose, who works as a nurse in Grand Island, Neb.
Since she was separated from her 83-year-old mother, the 43-year-old says she does not have an accurate accounting of her family’s assets and belongings. “About $40,000 in bonds have been redeemed, a life insurance policy was cashed in and a $20,000 policy was signed over to a funeral home even though mother’s burial arrangements were already paid for,” Rose says. “There’s more, but I don’t have an inventory.”
That’s because Rose claims her brother has disclosed only inaccurate and incomplete financial information.
“Mother was happy living with me in my home until he kidnapped her in 2012,” Rose says. “She had given me medical power of attorney in 1998, and now I have limited access to see her.”

Nabity through his attorney Lisa Line declined to comment about the case PR12-1422, which is venued in the Douglas County Courts.
“I am allowed to visit my mother every Tuesday between 11:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., but I have to pay a monitor $50 an hour to supervise my visits with her,” says Rose, who lives five hours away by car roundtrip. “This is hard for my children, because they are in school until 4 p.m., so by the time we get there, it’s 6:30 and then we have to drive back for school the next morning.”

When it comes to wills, trusts and probate court, brothers and sisters can become the worst of enemies without best practices in place.

“Disputes among siblings that wind up in probate court are common in many families but especially when strong feelings of entitlement are not tempered with attitudes of gratitude, respect and love for one another,” says Sam Sugar, founder of the Miami-based Americans Against Abusive Guardianship.
As a result, aging parents often suffer the most when their adult family members are at war.
“My poor mother is locked up, isolated, drugged and kept away from her family, friends and the outside community," Rose says. "There is no medical research to back up or support that this is the best way to care for the elderly."

One way to avoid disputes over inheritance or family wealth is by spelling out wishes in a trust document.
"In addition to that, parents should make their intentions well known to all children well in advance," said Reno Frazzitta , founder and president of Secure My Funds, a retirement planning services firm.

To help families manage wealth, Merrill Lynch offers ten best practices, called Wealth Continuity and Family Unity. “By implementing these best practices, a family can understand who has a collaborative mindset and who may not want to participate,” says Michael Liersch, head of behavior finance at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management. “The key is to go into these discussions with a nonjudgmental, open mind so that all perspectives can be heard, which may facilitate the information flow needed to make the best decisions possible.”
Among the practices are developing skillful communication, creating accountability and establishing a collaborative advisory team.
“The practice of creating a collaborative advisory team would be most related to the notion of helping a family member with a particular dysfunction,” Liersch says. “Pulling in the right expert for advice and guidance can help a family make the right decision for a loved one they are concerned about.”
Dysfunction among family members is often created by envy, jealousy and greed.
"The fires of sibling rivalry stoked with the flammable fuel of cash are almost impossible to extinguish," Sugar says. "Sadly, when lawyers become involved, it gets very ugly."

Peter Falk bill coming to Utah

Peter Falk bill coming to Utah

Peter Falk bill coming to Utah
(KUTV) A Peter Falk bill is coming to the Utah Legislature.
Actor Peter Falk played Columbo, a rumpled detective, who was smarter than he appeared, and was one of the most popular characters ever on television.
Falk’s daughter Catherine Falk is now touring states asking for legal changes that would allow children to visit their parents in the hospital or a care facility.
“When my father was very sick, my sister and I weren’t given access. We couldn’t see him,” Catherine Falk said.
Peter Falk suffered from Alzheimer’s and died in 2011. His second wife kept his children from him in his last illness.
“It was his last days, and you just want to spend time with your father,” Catherine Falk said.
She is travelling from state to state asking for a streamlined legal process that would allow children to visit their parents.
“I’ve met with people in Utah who had the same problem,” says Sen. Todd Weiler, R-Woods Cross. Weiler will sponsor a “Peter Falk” bill in the 2016 Utah legislative session.
Catherine. Falk says such bills are already pending in New York, New Jersey and Arizona.

The Peter Falk Bill: Columbo's Daughter, Catherine Falk

The Peter Falk Bill: Columbo's Daughter, Catherine Falk
CATHERINE FALK, the daughter of beloved actor Peter Falk aka Columbo, is waging a state-by-state campaign to grant children access to an elderly or incapacitated parent who is under someone else's care, & her visiting-rights bills are advancing in New York and California. If the bills go into effect, it could provide a useful model for legislation in other states.

Despite a long & varied career, Peter Falk gained fame for his portrayal of the dishevelled but crafty Los Angeles Lieutenant. Columbo always wore a grubby raincoat & smoked cigars, & usually made a false exit before uttering his catchphrase: ‘Just one more thing.’ The original series ran for seven years from 1971, but was constantly re-commissioned throughout the 1980s and 1990s due to its popularity. When Peter was diagnosed with dementia in 2008, Catherine found it difficult to get information about his well being.
"The visitation bill basically is a protection, a law that protects adult children and ailing elderly parents when your parent is being isolated or secluded away from family, friends and loved ones," Catherine Falk said. As divorce and remarriage become more prevalent in today’s society, there is a greater possibility of conflicts between a second spouse and children from a first marriage. These conflicts can become very contentious when a parent is incapacitated, enters into a conservatorship, & the current spouse cuts off access between the parent & a child from a previous marriage.

The Peter Falk bill is close to passing in 10 states through bipartisan support. In the State of New York, the Peter Falk Bill – Bill #3461 – is in the Assembly & ready to be passed and approved. The Catherine Falk Organization offers a support center for those who need assistance for getting visitation rights to see an ailing parent.
