TOKYO -- A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck early Thursday off the coast of Japan, the US Geological Survey reported.
The agency measured its depth at 23 miles and said it occurred roughly 62 miles east-southeast of Fukushima.
The quake did not pose a risk of a tsunami, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
