M4.6 quake jolts Hiroshima, Shimane prefectures
OSAKA (Kyodo) -- An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 4.6 rocked northern parts of Hiroshima as well as western parts of Shimane prefectures early Friday morning, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
The quake at around 4:35 a.m. had an intensity of 4 on the Japanese seismic scale in Miyoshi city in Hiroshima Prefecture, and the town of Misato in Shimane Prefecture.
No tsunami warning was issued. There have been no reports of damage so far.
Meanwhile, an earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 6.1 rocked southern Hokkaido on Thursday evening, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
There was no danger of tsunami due to the 7:25 p.m. quake that originated off the coast of southern Hokkaido at the depth of around 30 kilometers, the agency said.
It registered lower 5 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in the town of Urakawa on Japan's northernmost island prefecture.
