Subject: Mary Sykes

To: Naperville Police Department.

As I concerned citizen I am reporting to you that Gloria Sykes wrote to me and stated in part:

"I called the Naperville Police and they told me that mother was fine and that there is an order preventing me from talking to her too. "

This is not the first time that I was informed of this being the response of the Naperville Police Department to Gloria Sykes' attempts to visit with her mother. As I have reported previously to the Naperville Police Department I and the other friends of Mary Sykes are very concerned over the Isolation of Mary Sykes and what appears to serious financial exploitation of this elderly lady. The continued isolation is clear elder abuse! Being old is not a crime.

Joe Paterno was a terminated because he failed to follow through on a child abuse complaint. Is it fair to say that had he followed through he would be met by resistance from law enforcement? The December 2010 incident is still unresolved. It was reported that Mary Sykes was taken to the hospital having lost 10% of her body weight. The plenary guardian is reported to have informed family members and others that Mary for some finite period of time had a swallowing disorder and have been denied medical care. The failure of the fiduciary plenary guardian to provide her ward with medical care in what now appears to be life threatening situation is neglect 101. Was this incident reported to the Illinois Department of Aging? Was follow through was had by the Naperville Police?

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I would appreciate your forwarding to me the following:

1) the court order that bars Gloria Sykes from visiting or communicating with her mother.

2) the information as to how this order was obtained by the Naperville Police Department.

3) the information concerning the December 2010 incident referred supra. In particular, copies of reports filed with the Illinois Department of Aging and other agencies, investigation and followup. (I have been informed that there have been numerous trips to the emergency room - the literature suggests that numerous trips to the emergency room is indicative of a situation involving elder abuse.)

My reason for making this request is the fact that I researched the file in the Mary Sykes case and found no such order is in the Court file. There is however a petition verified by Mary Sykes that seeks a protective order against the person who is the plenary guardian. There was no hearing on this petition filed by Mary, but Mary was removed from Cook County to Lake County and the alleged abuser was appointed as the plenary guardian. What is also most disturbing was the lack of an inventory as to the contents of the safety deposit box.

The Paterno syndrome is now in disrepute. Maybe Mary's situation is wonderful! If it is there should be a cogent and appropriate explanation that will satisfy the entire cadre of friends and family. The explanation that "yes I take showers with young men and horse around with them" is not exculpatory. In the Mary Sykes case the 'stonewall' is not appropriate.
