"Out of Time" - Why Young Lawyers Shouldn't Hate Hate Hate Baby Boomers Holding On to Jobs

"Out of Time" - Why Young Lawyers Shouldn't Hate Hate Hate Baby Boomers Holding On to Jobs

Telomeres-reversing-agingOnly someone not born and reared in positive-thinking America could put together "Out of Time."
Its author Lynne Segal, originally from Australia, provides a brutally honest analysis of aging, across cultures. No where are the Baby Boomers, so hated hated hated by Generations X and Y, having the time of their lives. Here you can order "Out of Time" from Amazon.
An intellectual, Segal captures and expands on how civilizations dating back from the Greeks to current realists like Philip Roth framed aging. Never was it pretty. And the young never cottoned to it since in some cultures such as that in Ancient Greece it was codified that they had to care for their parents and in what specific ways.
Now, of course, we geezers are clogging the professional pipelines. Partners at law firms, older lawyers "owning" the DUI or estate-planning niche in town, and tenured law professors are making it impossible for Gens X,Y to move up or, sometimes, even in.
Then, there are, of course, members of the Silent Generation like Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Liberals want her to retire.  That's because "at her age" they can't envision that she would continue to represent a progressive point of view on the U.S. Supreme Court for 10 or 20 more years. But, that is possible.
However, what the generations behind Baby Boomers don't know is how hard the blocking force is struggling just to hang in. The external messages from society and the internal messages from our body and mind have become the equivalent of the Greek Chorus, warning that time is running out.
In the First Chapter of the book, Segal writes:
" ... as we age, most of us are still trying to hold on to some sense of who and what we are, however hard this may become for those who start to feel increasingly invisible."
Likely, though, youth and middle age have no motivation to even attempt to understand the aging.  There's no payoff, is there.

All these younger folks have to do is wait a few more years and there will be all kinds of openings because not everyone will be carried out in a casket!
