Japan institute to receive H7N9 viruses from China
A Japanese research institute will receive virus samples of the latest bird flu strain from the Chinese government as early as this month. The samples are necessary to create a vaccine.

China has so far confirmed 14 patients have been infected with the H7N9 virus in the country's east, including in Shanghai and Jiangsu province. Five have died.

The , in Tokyo is already analyzing genetic information from the virus to quickly make vaccines in case it can be spread from person to person.

The samples will come from 3 patients in Shanghai and elsewhere.

The institute plans to culture the samples and choose viruses suitable for the manufacture of vaccines.

It will also examine whether anti-viral drugs for other bird flus, including Tamiflu, are effective against the new strain.
