While filtering through copies of checks that were paid by Alice's court appointed guardian, this Shark found a check cashed by FNBC. At first glance one would believe it was cashed by First National Bank of Chicago....No, the back of the check bore the stamped endorsement of First Nations Bank of Canada a Canadian tribal bank. Now why would Alice's money be sent to a Canadian tribal bank? Our probate crew would know the reason. Lucius Verenus, Schoolmaster, ProbateSharks.com
Forensic expert determines signature ‘non-genuine’ on one of the wills claiming Staten Island millionaire’s fortune (NY)
STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A forensic expert has determined that the signature on one of the two wills making a claim to a Staten Island man’s $40 million fortune is a forgery, according to attorney Richard La Rosa.
Forensic document examiner John Paul Osborn’s report found that “the signature is non-genuine and highly probable it was not signed by Roman Blum” during court proceedings Wednesday at Surrogate’s Court in St. George.
Blum, a Holocaust survivor from Poland who lived in Annadale and amassed his wealth as a real estate developer, died in 2012 at the age of 97. His wife died before him and they were childless.
Blum had no written will.
La Rosa, the attorney representing Public Administrator Gary Gotlin, hired Osborn to examine the validity of Blum’s signature on a will filed by Anthony J. Allegrino II in September 2013. Allegrino is an attorney reportedly disbarred in at least one state.
“In this particular case, the evidence is overwhelming,” the report said, according to La Rosa.
Osborn was given Blum’s authentic signature from canceled checks and other legal documents to make the comparison, La Rosa said.
“I’m not surprised,” he said. “I never had any doubt. Blum had a very distinctive signature. I’m surprised Allegrino would do something so stupid and think he can get away with it.”
Allegrino has a right to challenge the report and hire his own forensic expert, according to La Rosa.
The parties are expected back in court Nov. 5 at 10:30 a.m.
The other will was filed by attorney Peter Sipp, who represents Teresa Musial. Sipp submitted a will in June on behalf of Helena Pietrucha, who attorneys contend was Blum’s lover during World War II.
Ms. Pietrucha died in 1999.
Ms. Musial was Ms. Pietrucha’s caregiver and confidante for over 20 years, and the sole beneficiary of Ms. Pietrucha’s estate.
Blum and Ms. Pietrucha, who were engaged, were separated in Poland during the Holocaust, Sipp said.
The Russians arrested Ms. Pietrucha’s family in the middle of a cold night and exiled them to Siberia, while Blum was captured by the Nazis and sent to a concentration camp, according to the lawyer.
Ms. Pietrucha was pregnant in 1939 with Blum’s child and lost the baby on the way to Siberia.
The Staten Island Public Administrator’s Office is currently in charge of Blum’s estate.
