Robert Neulander and his wife, Leslie, each signed new wills in August 2012, a little more than five weeks before police say he killed her.
Neulander's wife, who used her maiden name, Leslie London, signed her will Aug.10, 2012. The 61-year-old was found dead Sept. 17, 2012 in the couple's DeWitt home.
The will reveals the couple's assets were worth about $4 million. Leslie Neulander's estate was valued at $392,030, according to an affidavit filed by Robert Neulander in May. An inventory of her property filed with the court included:
The court filings also list Leslie Neulander's shared interest in $3.7 million worth of real and personal property:
Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick, who said during a news conference the couple were in the process of divorcing, said the will "has no connection - zero" to the case.
He said prosecutors do not believe the crime had anything to do with financial gain.
Fitzpatrick said he can't discuss a motive for the crime, but said it would be revealed during the trial.
Ed Menkin, the lawyer representing Robert Neulander, has said he won't be commenting further at this time.
Leslie Neulander's will was similar to her previous wills, according to an affidavit filed by attorney James N. Seeley, of Bond Schoeneck & King. Seeley had handled estate planning for the couple since 1991, and prepared wills for Leslie Neulander in 1992 and 2003.
Each spouse's will contained the same provisions, Seeley told the court.
Leslie Neulander's newest will was admitted for probate Oct. 5, 2012 and Robert Neulander was named executor of his wife's estate. The estate proceedings closed on May 16, 2014.
