The Chicago Tribune won 16 Peter Lisagor Awards for outstanding journalism Friday night in a competition sponsored by the Chicago Headline Club.
The Tribune's investigative series “Cook County Justice,” written by reporters Cynthia Dizikes and Todd Lighty, won the award for Best Investigative Reporting.
The Chicago Sun-Times took home 10 awards, including the Watchdog Award for Excellence in Public Interest Reporting for “Clout in Session,” a series of stories on the United Neighborhood Organization (UNO) and its misuse of public funding by Dan Mihalopoulos.
Lifetime Achievement Awards were given to Former CBS anchorman Bill Kurtis, ABC 7's Karen Meyer and Windy City Media Group's Tracy Baim.
Associated Press national writer Sharon Cohen received the third annual Anne Keegan Award for Reporting on the Little Guy. This award honors print and online journalists who tell extraordinary stories about ordinary people.

The Chicago Headline Club created the awards in honor of Peter Lisagor, the late Chicago Daily News Washington bureau chief, who showed skill and wit as a print reporter and broadcast news analyst. The awards recognize the best of Chicago journalism.
