Attorney Organizes Wills For Heroes
EUGENE, Ore. — Our first responders put themselves in harm’s way every day to protect our safety. Often times they don’t prepare for the risks that can come with these dangerous jobs.
That’s why Eugene Attorney Dan Prince is putting together a pro bono program to offer local first responders free wills and estate plans. It’s under the umbrella of the program Wills For Heroes.
On Friday, Prince and more than a dozen local attorneys and students will create wills for our first responders, saving them hundreds of dollars.
A Forbes study found that 80 percent to 90 percent of first responders do not have wills. Prince says it’s the least they could.
“It’s a way to say thank you certainly,” added Prince. “A week from today, what will I be doing? I will be sitting down to a fairly nice dinner with my family, and what will they be doing? Not that. They’ll be on duty keeping my family and I safe.”
The program runs Friday at the Eugene Fire Department Training Center on 2nd and Chambers from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
There are already dozens of people signed up, and Prince says they’ll accept more people who want to come out.
This is only the second time that this program has been offered in Oregon.
