Russia's EMERCOM to purchase men's socks with nanoparticles worth $100K
On October 21st, Russia's EMERCOM will hold a tender for the supplies of antibacterial cotton socks with silver nanoparticles for firemen.
According to the project, the agency will acquire 63,400 pairs of socks totaling $3 million rubles.
"Men's socks should be dyed, with an additional technology to nano-modify the composition of fabric. The fabric should be treated with a substance containing silver nanoparticles," the message from the department of public procurement said.
Applications for participation in the tender are accepted before October 15.
Reports of unusual and even scandalous public procurement often make headlines in mass media every now and then. Ukrainian publications, for instance, made the list of most controversial public procurement for 2012. Medical stretchers at a price of a car are among the top lines.
