Van Note trial delayed until '14

    The trial of a former Kansas City attorney accused of killing her father after he was brutally attacked at his Sunrise Beach home has been delayed again.
    Citing a need for more time for preparation, the Boone County judge hearing the case allowed the case to be removed from the November calendar. A new date has not been set. It is possible the case could be heard in April, May or June 2014.
    It is the second time the trial has date has been changed.
    Van Note is charged with forgery and first degree murder in the death of her 67-year-old father, William Van Note in October 2010. She is currently free on bond after posting $1 million in cash. Van Note allegedly schemed to kill her father to gain control of his estate.
    Van Note's arrest came nearly two years after her father's death. She was charged in September 2012.
    Two accomplices, Desre and Stacey Dory, of Johnson County, were also arrested and charged with second degree murder and forgery. The Dorys were referred to as friends of Susan Van Note. The Dorys are accused of acting as witnesses for the forged power of attorney that lead to William Van Note being removed from life support.
    William B. Van Note and Sharon L. Dickson, 59, died after being shot and stabbed at his home in Sunrise Beach on Oct. 2, 2010. Dickson was pronounced dead at the scene. Van Note was taken to Columbia with life-threatening injuries.
    William Van Note was a successful Kansas City area businessman. He and Dickson had shared a long-term relationship. No charges have been filed in connection with Dickson's death.
    Despite multiple gunshot wounds, William B. Van Note managed to make a 911 call to report he and his companion had just been shot.
    He died three days later after being removed from life support while he was undergoing treatment at a Boone County hospital.
