Cancer Treatment Centers of America Inc.'s Midwest Regional Medical Center in Zion is joining health insurer Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Illinois' network of providers under a three-year agreement announced Tuesday.
Patients covered by Blue Cross, by far the largest insurer in the Chicago area with more than 50 percent of the market, will be able to receive treatment in-network at the hospital, which specializes in treating patients with complex and advanced-stage cancer.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
While the hospital and insurer have had a relationship for decades, the new pact will increase access to Cancer Treatment Centers for certain patients covered under Blue Cross' PPO network by reducing their rates, a Cancer Treatment Centers spokeswoman said.
The Midwest Regional Medical center has other "in-network" relationships with the insurers Cigna and Coventry National.
Schaumburg-based Cancer Treatment Centers, a for-profit chain founded in 1988 that also operates hospitals in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Oklahoma and Georgia, also on Tuesday named a new CEO.
Gerard van Grinsven, former president of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital in Michigan, replaced Stephen Bonner, who will move to a new role as executive chairman.
