The 3-minute video that ABC News broadcast and currently presents online at http://abcnews.go.com/video/playerIndex?id=8486577 merits the attention which the NCEA proposes below to give to videos about elder abuse.  It is actually quite representative of my own experience.

The events recorded in this video are the subject of a report which ABC News presents online at http://abcnews.go.com/2020/mary-ellens-mansion-elder-abuse/story?id=8976473, according to which
(1)    the video was recorded in a hospital by an attorney;
(2)    the attorney appears in the video along with clients whom he represents;
(3)    this attorney was disbarred and indicted on criminal charges for taking advantage of the infirmity of the 88-year old widow who also appears in the video so as to get her to sign a Will and Power of Attorney favoring his clients.

This video demonstrates the need for a mechanism that would trigger in such situations a timely alert to affected family members, hospital authorities, law enforcement and/or Adult Protective Services.  The attached file describes such a mechanism, one that is based upon published recommendations of the American Medical Association and other medical authorities.  The attached file fully identifies several of these sources and includes a draft of model legislation which would ensure that this safeguard is practiced.
