Lawyer sentenced to life for murdering Eddy Curry’s ex-girlfriend and child

Fredrick Goings told the relatives of former Chicago Bull Eddy Curry’s ex-girlfriend that he still “loved” her and the baby he was convicted of killing in a tyrannical rage.

“My case was a rush to judgment,” the disgraced lawyer said Thursday minutes before he attempted to sway a Cook County judge for a new trial for the 2009 double murder.

The legalese wasn’t of much help.

Judge Maura Slattery Boyle ripped into 40-year-old Goings and called him a “fraud,” “shell” and “predator” with narcissistic tendencies as she sentenced him to a life behind bars.

“You are a façade as a lawyer, as a man and as a human being,” Slattery Boyle said.

Goings, who had an on-and-off romantic relationship with Nova Henry and served as her lawyer in a child custody case against Curry, was not only worried about the legal fees she planned to fight from paying.

He was angry over losing control and more importantly a luxurious lifestyle Henry could provide with $15,000-month in child support payments from the famous athlete, the judge said.

That anger and arrogance pushed the abusive Goings to execute 24-year-old Henry and Ava, the 10-month-old daughter Henry had with Curry and had cradled in her arms when they were shot, assistant state’s attorney James McKay said.

Left unharmed in the South Loop condo was Henry and Curry’s then 3-year-old son, Noah, who was discovered playing in his mother and sister’s blood.

“I miss my mommy and sister becase [sic] Fred did something horrible to them,” Noah wrote in a statement that was entered into court.

Nearly a half dozen family members took the stand Thursday to describe Henry, who loved playing with Cabbage Patch Kids as a child and tickling her grandmother with a feather. Ava, a “lady bug,” was a “happy” baby who loved to dance like her mom, Henry’s aunt Toya Luvert said.

Luvert stared at Goings: “You are nothing but a wolf in sheep’s clothing, nothing but the devil….[Henry] left you for good and you couldn’t handle it. Why stay with someone who didn’t want you? Oh yea, the money.”

While Henry’s mother said she forgave Goings, she said his sentiments in court were “empty.”

“He has no soul in his body and anything that comes out of his mouth is a lie,” Yolan Henry said.

Eric Grimmette was in the midst of laying his late mother to rest when he was told of his daughter and granddaughter’s murders.

“You just never get any closure. You always have that feeling about missing your babies,” he said.

Curry, who now plays for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in China and has custody of Noah, did not attend Goings’ February jury trial or Thursday’s sentencing.
