Michael Camberdella Shooting: Family disputes PBSO investigation, hires team of lawyers

Editor’s Note: This Shark is touched by the Camberdella story since having personal contact with some of the people involved. Not knowing all the details, makes it difficult to render judgement. What does a fish know? What your ProbateShark does know, if a Chicago cop were approached by an agitated teen with a hedge trimmer, the event would be handled with a nightstick, taser or mace. The end result would be a cuffed teen with a headache. Lucius Verenus, Schoolmaster, ProbateSharks.com

SUBURBAN BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. -- The family of the 18-year-old man who was shot and killed by a Palm Beach County Sheriff's deputy on Thursday has hired a team of lawyers to investigate the case.
Michael Camberdella was shot and killed by PBSO deputy William Goldstein, after investigators said Camberdella threatened the life of Goldstein with a hammer and hedge shears.

"At first I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe this officer came to their home and I know this young man, I just couldn't believe it," said Richard Freedman, an attorney representing the Camberdella family.
Freedman referred to the 911 calls made about a domestic disturbance that occurred outside the Camberdella residence in Suburban Boynton Beach.
Investigators said the deputy had no choice when Camberdella approached him and said Camberdella refused the orders of the deputy to back down.

"This was clearly excessive force and this was an unnecessary death that resulted where somebody should have been able to diffuse a difficult situation, but instead they compounded it," said Harry Shevin, an attorney representing the Camberdella family.

Shevin said Camberdella posed no threat. The Palm Beach Gardens attorney also said his investigation leads him to believe the deputy arrive on scene, guns blazing, with the attitude of "shoot first, ask questions later."

"The deputy took the action that he had to take to neutralize the threat to him and not only that, the people that were in the area because he was definitely a threat to the mother and other people," said Sheriff Ric Bradshaw shortly after the shooting on Thursday.
It is a statement Shevin criticized Bradshaw for making, and said the sheriff came to the defense of Goldstein before having all of the facts.

"We didn't hear anything from the sheriff that this was a tragedy and this family lost their child. The only thing we heard were these outrageous statements about Michael being a homicidal danger," said Shevin.
A lawsuit has yet to be filed according to Shevin, who said he and his team are waiting for the investigation to play out. Shevin said he will be closely watching the oversight by the state attorney's office.
When reached for comment on Monday, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office and the Palm Beach County Police Benevolent Association did not respond.
A funeral for Michael Camberdella is schedule for Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Levitt Weinstein Memorial Chapel in Coconut Creek.

There are eye witnesses who saw what happened and not only was Michael Camberdella not armed but did not threaten and posed no threat to the sheriff. The sheriff killed Michael in old blood. We must protect are children from murderers like this trigger happy cop. There will be no justice until either hang this sheriff or give him the electric chair. Most cops are good but this one is known to be a mental case.

The media puts a spin on the story and then people jump to conclusions. You can't really say what should have been done and what could have been done if you weren't there. In this case the Mom called 911 along with neighbors. It will be interesting to hear what the 911 tapes have to say but until then I am smart enough not to jump to conclusions. I can't blame the mom for changing her story if thats what she did. It was indeed her son and regardless a very tragic situation. A mother is going to defend her own son. And lawyers, well some are just looking for a pay day. Its actually kind of funny to read what some of you come up with though. And since some of you want to bring up the Seth Adams case, yes lets talk about that since the details from that case have been released. There were three different investigations that came up with the same conclusions. If there was a forth and fifth investigation it would have been the same results not because of a cover up but because it is FACT. As the lawyer said... the result is the result. Yes, there will be a statement from the deputy involved, that is indeed apart of the investigation. But there is also forensic evidence that matches the Deputies statement. Seth Adams was almost 2x the legal limit. Did the deputy pour alcohol down his throat??? He may have been a meek well mannered person but alcohol can change your personality... and you may do something that you normally wouldn't do. He had just left a bar... and ...more

Kristine - You seem to be very knowledgable about the Seth Adams shooting death by Deputy Custer. I also know this case... You mentioned the DNA on Custer's throat. It seems more believable that Seth Adams fell towards Custer and may have "touched" his neck after being shot at close range FOUR TIMES. (18 inches according to report). Also, if you listen to the recording of the dispact audio, you will hear repeated attempts by the dispatcher to make verbal contact with Custer after the shots were fired. SEVERAL minutes go by before Custer responds to the dispact. Was he cleaning up his crime scene? Was he following Seth as he stumbled to get away? The truth will come out about Custer. You don't know what you don't know...

I listened to the dispatch tape, I listened to the interview, I also read the FDLE report as well as the state attorneys report. I never heard several MINUTES go by on the dispatch tape before deputy Custer responded. The truth has already come out.

Wait for the civil suit. Custer lies will be exposed. PBSO should have done a better job investigating.

Honey Badger - Your comments are so correct! This type of brutality will only continue as long as Sheriff Ric Bradshaw is at PBSO. If you want to read some very chilling comments written by PBSO Law Enforcement Officers, go to Pbsotalk.com. It is truly chilling the hate and vulgarity that is posted by a few LEO's on this site. My prediction is that Sheriff Bradshaw will eventually get indicted by a Federal Grand Jury for civil rights and corruption counts. Until then, no one is safe in Palm Beach County. Come on Florida! Rise up and show your outrage. Bradshaw and his trigger happy thugs need to go!

Nope just someone with some common sense that's all. I am glad you are done with the conversation as I feel as if I am banging my head against the wall and quite honestly starting to get a headache.

Agreeing to disagree is the adult thing to do. Your interest in this case is curious. I mean, why do you keep on posting? How would Custer's wife feel about you carrying on about her husband? hmmm. I'm just say'n.

Well from the outset this case seems fishier than even the Seth case.
The kid was a special needs kid runnig around saying he was a ninja. He hadnt actually harmed anyone. Bradshaw used as an excuse that the officer wasnt even sure if someone hadnt been murdered inside. Well, you dont shoot someone for what you dont know. The "ninja" was killed and noone else was harmed. If he wanted to hurt somone he would have. Just a really bad call no matter how you spin it. Definitly wait for back up, taser, shoot in the leg/shoulder or get the big net out and take him to the crazy house. Even if it went down just as Bradshaw said (doubtful) it just seems wrong

You are surprised? You elected a total Progressive take no prisoners attitude Sheriff. He is a simpleton and only knows how to use force to get his job done. He does it well, but this is not his problem. You need to stop electing Progressives in the Florida House and Senate. These are the people writing these ridiculous and over zealous laws that have taken away your rights as a citizen. They have given the law enforcers unbridled power over you little people. They answer to NO one and can always say they are only following the law. And they are right! Keep electing people who feel that another rule or law will fix everything and you will get more of the same, but don't blame the people for enforcing these laws.

What the hell are you talking about ... Law enforcement can legally kill you, even the President can make up his own kill list and it is enforced, no warrants, no oversight , Homeland security and CIA can hold you indefinitely and privacy ... forget about it. They can even spy on you without warrants.

These are certainly not progressive laws ... Go back and study what progressive means ... and use it when you know more ...
