In its notice of disciplinary proceedings around Texas, the state bar's Commission on Lawyer Discipline said that on Feb. 4, the Board of Disciplinary Appeals signed a final judgment against Jones, 66, who has been at the center of the city's corruption scandals.
Jones, a longtime El Paso lawyer, was convicted in 2011 of conspiracy to commit wire fraud, deprivation of honest services and other crimes in connection with his role in a scheme to rig a contract to digitize county records. He's serving a six-year federal prison sentence in connection with it.
Also, Jones pleaded guilty last year to aiding in a scheme to steer $100 million in health-insurance business to El Paso County and area schools.
He received a cut of the Ysleta Independent School District's legal fees as part of the scheme.
U.S. District Judge Frank Montalvo sentenced Jones to five years in that case, to be served at the same time as his other conviction.
Jones is being held at the Florence Correctional facility, which is 90 miles south of Denver.
