Attorney indicted for bribing witness
News

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19)- A local
attorney has been indicted on allegations that he bribed a witness.

Gregory A. Cohen has been
indicted for obstructing justice and bribery.

According to the indictment,
Cohen used cash to, "corrupt a witness, or improperly influence him with
respect to his testimony in an official proceeding, either before or after he
was subpoenaed or sworn, promised or offered, or gave him or another person a
valuable thing or valuable benefit."

Cohen is the attorney for murder
suspect Lamar Simmons, who was arrested in 2011 for the 2005 murder of Jose
Vazquez. Simmons was also charged with retaliation against a witness in the
case. Vazquez was found dead hours after he testified in the murder case of
Johnathan D. White.

The case was scheduled to go to
trial on Feb. 25.

Simmons was also convicted
earlier this month in the March 2011 murder of Anthony Thompson. He had
different attorneys in that case.

Cohen is out of jail on his own
recognizance.

The Hamilton County Prosecutor's
Office had no comment, saying a special prosecutor is handling the case. FOX19
reached out to that special prosecutor, but did not hear back as of the close
of business Friday.

Cohen was also the attorney for
Liz Carroll, who was convicted of killing her foster son, Marcus Fiesel, and
Andre Davis, who was convicted of having sex with multiple women without
telling them he was HIV positive.

FOX19 also reached out to Cohen
and his attorney, but were told by his law firm there was no comment at this
time.

Cohen could face up to six years
in prison if convicted.

According Supreme Court of Ohio
records, Greg Cohen has no disciplinary history.

A FOX19 investigation revealed
that last year 14 Ohio attorneys faced interim suspensions due to felony
convictions, 21 were suspended in 2010 and less than a dozen in the three years
prior. Also, each year anywhere from 54 to 71 attorneys have faced some sort of
disciplinary action from 2007 through 2011.
