A woman is suing the village of Melrose Park, claiming she was punched in the face by a drunk woman in a night club, then roughed up by a police officer when she re-enacted the crime for him.
In a lawsuit filed Tuesday, Tanya Gill says she was at iBar, 2010 W. North Ave., Monday night when she took a seat at the bar and soon after was shoved, then punched by an intoxicated woman who believed Gill had taken her chair.
Gill called police and waited outside for them to arrive. When a Melrose Park police officer got there about 30 minutes later, Gill says that as she demonstrated the altercation — without giving the officer reason to fear for his owns safety — the cop grabbed her arm, forced her wrist behind her back and moved to throw her against a car as other officers yelled at him to let Gill go.
Gill said the officer remained brusque with her when she went to the police station to make a report, and that police peered into her car while she was inside the station house.
Gill claims the mistreatment was excessive use of force, false arrest and battery, and seeks unspecified damages.
