Boots, the 11-year-old Berwyn cat whose life was spared thanks to a Cook County probate judge last week, is headed to her new home in a no-kill shelter.
Last week, the Tribune reported that Cats are Purrsons Too had decided to take in Boots, whose owner, Georgia Lee Dvorak, died recently, and asked in her 1988 will that any cat or cats she owned at the time be euthanized. A neighbor theorized that Dvorak, who reportedly said Boots had been abused by her former owner, was worried that her pets would fall into abusive hands after she died.
The move from Berwyn to the shelter will occur at 2 p.m. Wednesday, said Fifth Third Bank, who was the executor of the woman's will and who asked the judge to set aside the provision asking to euthanize the cat. Fifth Third bankers will personally escort Boots from Berwyn to the Chicago shelter. The bank is donating cat supplies, food, and toys for Boots' new home.
Trustees of Fifth Third Bank had asked the judge to allow them to find a suitable long-term home for Boots, and the judge agreed. People from as far away as Tennessee and Texas expressed interest in adopting Boots after her plight was publicized.
