Japan's largest camera show opens in Yokohama

Japan's largest camera show has opened in Yokohama with over 80 manufacturers and organizations worldwide taking part.

The annual CP-plus Camera and Photo Imaging Show is organized by an industry group of camera and imaging-product makers.

Among the highlights, Canon and Fuji Film are showing off compact cameras that feature quick photo transfers to smartphones - their bid to capitalize on Japan's smartphone boom.

Panasonic has brought along a new compact camera that allows users to digitally paint makeup on facial photos.

Many makers unveiled single-lens cameras with changeable lenses. Product innovation has made these models more compact and lightweight.

Japanese makers still dominate the global market for digital cameras, despite the scandal at Olympus.

However, with South Korean and other global players increasingly catching up, the Japanese firms are cutting prices and offering more sophisticated features to hold on to market share.
