The family of a North Chicago man has sued the city and six of its police officers, claiming they fatally beat him while responding to a domestic disturbance at his home.

The wrongful death suit was filed Tuesday on behalf of Darrin "Dagwood" Hanna, who died Nov. 13, the suit claims, a week after the officers struck and Tasered him repeatedly before handcuffing him and removing him on a stretcher.

The suit, brought by Hanna's mother, Gloria Carr, and his adult son, Delorean McKinney, seeks unspecified damages.

Mayor Leon Rockingham declined to comment on the suit. Seven officers have been placed on desk duty pending the outcome of three separate investigations into Hanna's death, and the mayor said he will consider action by the City Council to suspend the police chief after those probes are completed.
