California Prison Psychologist Charged With Faking Rape

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A California prison psychologist is charged with faking her own rape in an unsuccessful bid to persuade her husband to move to a safer neighborhood.
Authorities in Sacramento say Laurie Ann Martinez conspired with a friend to create the appearance that she was beaten, robbed and raped in her home in April.
Investigators said Friday that she ripped open her blouse, split her own lip, scraped her knuckles with sandpaper and had her friend punch her with boxing gloves.
Police say it was all a ploy to get her husband to agree to move to a more desirable neighborhood. Instead, the couple is divorcing.
Martinez, who is 36, faces two counts of conspiracy. The charges were first reported by The Sacramento Bee.
Her attorneys did not immediately return telephone messages
