A judge today ordered a motorist held on $350,000 bond after he was accused of dragging an 80-year-old woman for a block while trying to snatch her purse.
Judge Israel Desierto ordered Billy Tribett held on a $350,000 bond during a hearing today.
Tribett, 53, was charged with aggravated battery of a victim over 60 years old and aggravated attempted robbery.
Prosecutors said he dragged the victim for a block and she never released her purse.
Police say Tribett reached out the window of his 2005 Honda while driving on the 900 block of North Oakley Boulevard and tried to grab the woman’s purse about 4 p.m. on Thursday.
The woman never lost her grip. Tribett kept driving, dragging the woman down the street, police said.
He let go but a witness saw the license plate and reported it to police, who arrested Tribett at his home on the 500 block of North Hamlin Street.
The woman kept her purse. She refused medical treatment at the scene, police said.
Prosecutors said Tribett has been convicted twice for robberies in which the victims were older than 60.
Tribett lives with and helps care for his 76-year-old mother, according to his defense attorney.
