Ex-bookkeeper pleads guilty to exploiting elderly
April 5, 2011 (WHEATON, Ill.) -- The DuPage County prosecutor's office says a former bookkeeper has pleaded guilty to stealing more than $100,000 from two clients.
Thirty-six-year-old Raimonda Uva of Wood Dale entered the plea Monday.
State's Attorney Robert Berlin says Uva admitted making at least 55 illegal withdrawals worth more than $100,000 between 2005 and mid-2008 from the bank accounts of her then-employer and depositing the money in her own account to make payments on her personal credit cards.
Authorities say she went on to steal more than $10,000 from a second victim -- a widow and her family for whom she was providing in-home bookkeeping services. The thefts were discovered after one victim grew suspicious and contacted authorities.
Uva faces up to 15 years in prison when she is sentenced June 29.
